Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a common, chronic inflammatory condition, caused by a problem with the immune system, which results in skin cells reproducing at a faster rate than normal.1,2,3

One in 50 people in the UK, 2-3% of the population, are affected by psoriasis which causes flaky patches of skin which can form scales. Psoriasis can seriously impact a person’s mental and physical wellbeing1,3 and can be associated with comorbidities such as depression, cardiovascular disease and inflammatory arthritis.4

Over the past decade, interest and funding for global health dermatology have surged, with skin conditions now acknowledged as the fourth leading cause of nonfatal disease burden globally.5 However, many unmet needs and unanswered questions remain about psoriasis, which if addressed, could improve clinical outcomes and experiences for patients.4

At UCB, we are working on several initiatives to address the unmet needs, including:

  • Partnering with the Industry Dermatology Initiative with the Health Innovation Network (South London AHSN) on a programme to improve outcomes for people with skin conditions through improving the digital care pathways
  • Working with our psoriasis patient panel to ensure our thinking and strategy are informed by the genuine needs of the patients whose lives we strive to make a difference to. The four remarkable panel members are people living with psoriasis who share their insights and personal experience
  • Collaborating with ten dermatologists, three payors and five patient representatives, including the Psoriasis Association, to deliver the Epicensus programme
    • Epicensus is a pan-European, expert-led initiative which aims to address the significant unmet needs that exist in psoriasis, specifically around the disparities in the quality of care and treatment patients receive in the UK
